Case Study

Beach Terrace Inn

Conveniently located on the outskirts of San Diego, the coastal town of Carlsbad has been a popular vacation destination since the discovery of restorative mineral waters drew settlers to the area in the late 1800s. Since then, Carlsbad has grown into a thriving city with dozens of hotels and resorts, museums, gardens, parks, golf, outlet shopping, and more—everything needed for a perfect Southern California getaway.

Privately owned and family operated, Beach Terrace Inn is the city’s only hotel on exclusive beach-front property. The resort’s main 1960s structure was originally an apartment building, not a hotel, but today its spacious rooms and layered floor plan add to the building’s charm, and additional construction on the site has expanded accommodations to include dozens of suites of varying sizes. With its luxurious rooms, private beach, and ocean-view terrace pool, the inn is the perfect resort destination for an intimate beach wedding, a relaxing corporate retreat, or a fun-packed family holiday.

Salas O’Brien provided the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for a renovation and refurbishment of the inn’s existing buildings. During the course of the project, our team reconfigured and expanded the hotel lobby, evaluated power distribution, and replaced existing exhaust, plumbing, and lighting fixtures. In addition, the designs we provided for the refurbishment of 48 existing rooms and common areas enabled the enlargement of bathrooms and the addition of walk-in showers.
