Alief Independent School District

Security Upgrades

Located southwest of Houston, Alief Independent School District (ISD) is an ethnically diverse community that prioritizes education and targeted career preparation. With over 45,000 students enrolled from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade, these schools play a vital role in supporting the thriving Houston area.

When Alief ISD needed updates to their access control system, they knew that Salas O’Brien was a premier partner in terms of both trustworthiness and efficiency. The project involved the design and implementation of an access control solution that would encompass all 45 campuses throughout the district. The system needed to be IP based and centrally managed both from a local station and remotely.

Salas O’Brien initial field surveys revealed several opportunities to increase the new system’s manageability and reduce costs—among them full integration with Microsoft Active Directory and the district’s existing Power over Ethernet (PoE) network. The Active Directory integration streamlined the IT department’s management of user accounts and card access, and drawing power for the new access system from an already existing PoE network dramatically reduced the installation cost by eliminating the need for extra wiring. The finished design met and exceeded the district’s goals, and in the process, showcased the Salas O’Brien team’s dedication to their clients’ interests and the Salas O’Brien difference.
