The New Tecumseth Administration Center has been recognized with the 2024 Ontario Woodworks Award for Excellence in Wood Design, honoring its innovative approach to adaptive reuse. Designed by Salas O’Brien with project partner +VG Architects, the project transformed the former Alliston Union Public School in Alliston, Ontario, into a modern municipal administration center.

Completed in 2024, Salas O’Brien’s design team preserved the school’s original structure while integrating state-of-the-art, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical IT systems. The 44,350 square foot facility blends public gathering spaces with municipal areas and features a composition of wood and glass that creates a modern loggia, framing views of the adjacent community plaza and park while connecting to the building’s primary interior functions.

The Canadian Wood Council honors organizations and projects with the Ontario Woodworks Award for Excellence in Wood Design for outstanding woodwork. The award was presented at the Council’s 40th annual Wood Design and Building Awards—a global showcase of innovative design—during the WoodWorks Summit on October 22, 2024.

This project has established a new civic precinct for Alliston and stands out within this Ontario community.
