Salas O’Brien leaders Khaja Syed, P.Eng, senior vice president, and King Cheung, RCDD, associate vice president, are taking the stage on November 28 at the CCHF Conference, held at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, ON, Canada. Their presentation, “What Will the Hospital of 2040 Need? Scenario Planning for Exponential Increases in Healthcare Data, AI, and Energy Demands,” explores how hospitals can prepare for the future through adaptable infrastructure and energy-resilient design.

As technology continues to transform healthcare at an unprecedented pace, Khaja and King will explore the key drivers and emerging trends shaping the future of care and their impact on delivering efficient, human-centered solutions. Hospitals today face mounting pressure to balance limited resources with the growing demands of digital infrastructure and energy systems. In this session, the speakers will demonstrate how these trends, along with AI applications, influence health system integration, code compliance, and the design-build process.

King adds nearly three decades of experience in information and communication technology and telecommunications, helping clients integrate robust digital systems across hospitals and critical facilities worldwide. His recent work includes projects like Royal Columbian Hospital and Dawson Creek and District Hospital in British Columbia.

Khaja is known for his leadership and project management skills across multi-national projects. His experience includes significant roles in designing and managing complex electrical systems for hospitals, pharmaceutical, educational, government, and industrial facilities.

Together, they share practical strategies to help hospital leaders plan for exponential data growth, align energy and technology needs, and build adaptable systems designed to serve patients well into 2040 and beyond.
