Salas O’Brien’s John Chyz is joining Green Building Initiative’s Lauren Wibe and Kate Callahan to facilitate an interactive workshop ahead of the 2026 Net Zero Conference in Los Angeles, giving building professionals practical tools to reduce carbon across the building lifecycle.

The half-day GBI Workshop: Decarbonizing the Built Environment: GBI’s Journey to Net Zero Learning Lab will take place Wednesday, October 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator.

Rather than treating net zero as a single target, the workshop will look at the decisions that contribute to carbon reduction across design, construction, and operations. Participants will explore strategies for addressing both embodied and operational carbon and work directly with GBI’s Journey to Net Zero™ assessment methodology and calculator.

For John, the workshop builds on decades of work helping project teams connect sustainability goals with measurable building performance.

John has worked with the Green Building Initiative for more than 15 years, serving as a Green Globes Assessor since 2010. In 2021, he was named to GBI’s inaugural classes of both Green Globes Fellows and Guiding Principles Compliance Fellows. His career has spanned renewable energy, sustainable design and construction, building performance, and sustainability strategy.

The Learning Lab is designed to help participants move from broad decarbonization commitments toward a more standardized and measurable approach. Attendees who complete the in-person training will become certified experts in GBI’s Journey to Net Zero™ program.
