Groundbreaking of Wieland’s modernized East Alton facility marks $500M investment in advanced manufacturing
Salas O'Brien joined project partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of Wieland's new East Alton facility.

On March 3, 2025, Salas O’Brien team members joined government leaders and representatives from Wieland to celebrate the groundbreaking of its multi-phase modernization and expansion project in East Alton, Illinois. The $500 million initiative includes state-of-the-art equipment, reinforcing Wieland’s commitment to technological advancement, sustainability, and long-term value for its customers.
Salas O’Brien, in partnership with Graycor, is providing engineering design services for the modernization effort, bringing deep expertise in metals process engineering to support Wieland’s vision for the facility’s future.
As one of the world’s leading suppliers of copper and copper alloy solutions, Wieland is making a strategic investment to enhance operational efficiency and position itself for continued industry leadership.
The redevelopment will feature a state-of-the-art hot rolling mill, enhancing Wieland’s ability to produce high-quality copper and copper alloy components, which play a vital role in supporting key domestic industries, including automotive, defense, and energy infrastructure.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-2028.
