VIDEO: Salas O’Brien helps BOOM Overture Superfactory meet sustainability goals

Behind the Scenes: Sustainability at Supersonic Speed
Sustainable aviation doesn’t start in the sky—it starts on the ground. BOOM Supersonic’s LEED®-certified Overture Superfactory in Greensboro, North Carolina, demonstrates that even the most resource-intensive manufacturing environments can be designed for high performance and environmental responsibility. Located at Piedmont Triad International Airport, the facility supports BOOM’s next-generation supersonic aircraft while setting a new benchmark for sustainable industrial design.
From the earliest planning stages, BOOM and Salas O’Brien aligned on a shared belief: performance and sustainability are not competing priorities. Through integrated LEED consulting, energy modeling, and commissioning services, Salas O’Brien helped embed sustainability into every phase of the project—from informed material selection and energy conservation measures to system verification and long-term operational efficiency. The result is a facility projected to be approximately 40% more energy efficient than comparable aircraft assembly buildings, without compromising production capability.
Designed with future adaptability in mind, the Final Assembly Line allows for potential conversion into a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hangar, protecting BOOM’s investment as aviation technology evolves. The project reflects the power of early alignment between future-forward clients and integrated engineering partners—and what becomes possible when sustainability, performance, and long-term flexibility are planned together from the start.
