Maine Hospital Earns High Marks with Renovation and Expansion

Our team supplied mechanical and electrical engineering design services for York Hospital’s $2.8-million upgrade of its birthing and family care center.

We carried out a complete renovation of the second-floor core area, removal of the west staircase, a two-story addition, HVAC upgrades, and complete replacement of HVAC and utility infrastructure throughout the space. We also replaced the entire steam heating system with high-efficiency condensing gas-fired boilers and duct-mounted hot water heating coils to create a four-pipe hot water/chilled water system.

The two-story addition houses a new nursery suite on the upper level and mechanical space on the lower level. The new facility provides additional intensive care for infants and young children and allows hospital staff to expand their clinical affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital.

A single-story addition to the north houses the 800-square-foot Garden Room surrounded by windows to facilitate natural light. Known as Miracles Family Birthing Center, the upgraded facility was ranked by Newsweek magazine in 2022 as one of the “Best Maternity Hospitals” in the United States and among the top three in Maine.
