Collaborative Engineering Center Reshapes the Human Experience

The University of California San Diego’s new engineering center, Franklin Antonio Hall, is designed to facilitate interdisciplinary education and research. It features 13 “collaboratories,” allowing researchers from across campus to come together and develop innovative projects like 3D-printed, low-cost autonomous underwater vehicles and plant-based research on human vaccines. Our team designed HVAC and plumbing systems through a design-assist delivery model to reduce costs while adhering to California Title 24 regulations. This includes Lab Air Tracking Control Systems, Redundant Laboratory Exhaust Systems, and a Laboratory Compressed Air, Vacuum, and Reverse Osmosis Water System – all of which are being evaluated rigorously for maximum energy efficiency with the goal of achieving LEED Gold certification.
