Swedish Medical Center
Surgical Room Upgrades
Our client
The Swedish Medical Center is an acute care hospital in south metro Denver with more than 1,400 physicians and over 2,500 employees and volunteers. Their average door to treatment time of just 20 minutes for stroke is faster than any other facility in the world and was the state’s first Joint Commission certified Comprehensive Stroke Center.
Project highlights
Their challenge
When the hospital determined they needed to retrofit two cardiovascular surgical suites with robotic capabilities, they engaged Salas O’Brien. The selected sites didn’t meet current standards for air handling and infection control, and they also lacked sufficent power to run the robotic system.
Our solution
Our team provided design services for the renovation, inclusive of a replacement air handling system that met current safety standards. This required all new ceiling systems, plus new isolated power distribution with two sources of critical power capable of handling the robotic surgery equipment.
The results
Once completed, the new code-compliant operating rooms will provide minimally invasive robotic surgery for cardiovascular patients.
