Their challenge
As Sterling Bay’s goal is to create exceptional office spaces in Chicago, it’s no surprise that they wanted to increase their reach by transforming an old cold-storage warehouse located right in the heart of one of Chicago’s most popular areas: the historic Fulton Market neighborhood. Sterling Bay asked our team to help convert the old facility into a space that would fit the Fulton Market district character and provide a unique headquarters space for their tenants.
Our solution
Our team provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design and engineering for this approximately 569,000-square-foot building, as well as LEED support and energy modeling services. Our design brought this 10-story building up to par as a modern LEED-certified retail building, complete with creative loft offices upstairs and stunning lower level common areas for future commercial retail development. Our work on this project also included engineering design for a six-story addition with underground parking.
The results
We designed and engineered a space that expanded our client’s reach in the historic Fulton Market neighborhood. This highly efficient, LEED-certified space now houses Google Inc.’s Midwest headquarters, Sandbox Industries, SRAM Corporation, as well as some major restaurants.
