Rosewood Park
Beach Restoration and Boardwalk
Our client
Woodhouse Tinucci Architects is an innovative full-service architecture firm located in Chicago, Illinois. They have projects that span from public to private sectors and are known for their unique approach and emphasis on sustainability.
Their challenge
The Park District of Highland Park tapped Woodhouse Tinucci Architects to design a new boardwalk as part of the ecological restoration of the beach. Woodhouse wanted to put the natural landscape first, so they needed a partner with similar lakeshore experience and sustainability-first mindset.
Our solution
We provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems design. The 1,500-foot boardwalk along Lake Michigan includes 5,000 square feet of pavilions for beach reception, refreshments, restrooms, and environmental education, some of which are geothermally heated and cooled.
The results
The $12.2-million project expanded the beach to twice the size it was. The project received the Chicago Building Congress Merit and the Illinois Park & Recreation Association Outstanding Facility Awards.
