Regional Energy Utility Provider
FGD Dust Containment
Salas O’Brien helped this major regional utility provider analyze and remediate an airborne dust problem at a gypsum stockpile adjacent to one of their power generation plants. Our design successfully solved the problem and met the client’s goals for cost effectiveness and efficiency.
When regulatory agencies mandated that a major Midwest Electric Utility remediate airborne dust produced by stockpiled gypsum near one of its plants, the company hired Salas O’Brien to assess the problem and provide an efficient, cost effective solution.
Our team designed a dust control system which uses enclosures and the DustTamer™ wind fence product by Dust Solutions, Inc. (DSI). DustTamer™ is a fabric material with specifically designed porosity that allows 30 to 50% of ambient air to breathe through the fabric while helping to equalize the pressure differential from one side of the fabric to the other. Our design also include concrete push walls that are strategically placed to protect the wind fence.
The finished wind fence effectively alleviated the airborne dust problem and met our client’s needs. The fence requires minimal attention and maintenance, and any maintenance that is required is easy to facilitate due to our proactive design. The solution was streamlined and cost effective, and its success led the client to commission our team for future projects.
