Poway Unified School District
Salas O’Brien provided architecture, energy, structural, and electrical engineering services for a photovoltaic system design and installation in Poway Unified School District, California. The finished project earned a nomination for the San Diego Excellence in Energy Awards and has an expected lifespan of 20 years.
Established in 1962, Poway Unified School District serves approximately 35,000 students in northern San Diego County, California. The district operates 25 elementary schools, six middle schools, and six high schools, some within San Diego city and some in the nearby city of Poway.
This photovoltaic (PV) installation project was part of a larger county initiative set to decrease energy consumption and increase energy production efficiency. The plant would service 20 buildings across four different school campuses in northern San Diego County.
Salas O’Brien provided professional engineering oversight, electrical design, Division of the State Architect coordination and support, structural analysis, and construction administration for this project.
The completed plant generates one million kWh of clean energy each year and has an expected lifespan of 20 years. The project was completed in six months and earned a nomination for the San Diego Excellence in Energy Awards. Our work on this project played a crucial role in supporting the school district’s commitment to reducing energy costs.
