Their challenge

Located in Chicago, Illinois, the McDonald’s Corporation Headquarters is home to 480,000 square feet of corporate office space and the famous training center known as Hamburger University. Schematic design for this cutting-edge urban structure began in October 2016 with a view toward achieving occupancy in 2018. McDonald’s needed an engineering partner that could deliver outstanding results over a fast-paced design and construction schedule and turn their plans for the space into an impressive and highly functional reality.

Our solution

Partnering with the project’s architect, IA Interior Architects, Salas O’Brien provided design for the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and security systems. Our design expertly accommodates the many functions of the varied space, from the corporate and executive offices, conference rooms, computer labs, server rooms, and creative studios on floors 4 through 8 to the special training areas and 18 commercial test kitchens of the Hamburger University on floors 2 and 3. Our design also facilitated a stunning six-story atrium and cafés on each level. The finished center features two separate lobbies for the corporate offices and training center, facing the adjacent North Carpenter and West Randolph streets, respectively.
