Mandarin Oriental Hotel
Salas O’Brien provided engineering, commissioning, and construction management services for this luxury hospitality destination in Atlanta, Georgia. Our work has helped the brand maintain its global reputation for excellent accommodations.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is an international luxury brand that bridges the retail, hospitality, and residential markets. The company’s roots go back to 1963 Hong Kong, and it has a tradition of impeccable service which flows from its rich Asian heritage. The company doesn’t measure success by size; rather, they aim to provide the very best luxury accommodations in key travel destinations and culture centers around the world—among them Tokyo, Paris, Milan, and New York. Their 30 destinations are spread over 20 countries and territories, and they’re continuing to grow while maintaining an extremely high standard of excellence at their existing properties.
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Atlanta, Georgia, merges luxury hotel accommodations, multi-family housing, office space, and restaurants into one 42-story tower. The live-in space comprises 80 condominium units, with the hotel comprising 127 rooms, multiple restaurants, a 24-hour service kitchen, and seven ballrooms as well as a luxury spa, state-of-the-art fitness center, yoga studio, and 60-foot saline water lap pool. The facility design presented various challenges common to buildings of this size and variety. Salas O’Brien was brought in to provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design and commissioning services for the structure, including an underground parking area.
The electrical systems our team designed include 16,000 amps of power sourced via four electrical services. Submetering systems service the hotel and each residence, restaurant, and office area—keeping each facility running smoothly and efficiently. The life safety system includes a 750kw generator located in the underground parking deck—securely protected from combustion, exhaust, and fuel spill hazards by special provisions in the systems design.
The finished 616,000-square-foot building provides both guests and tenants with comfortable, excellently designed spaces to live, work, and relax. Salas O’Brien’s work met and exceeded the project’s goals, and we have continued to assist Mandarin with improvement and expansions projects as the hotel has enjoyed success and popularity.
