Our client
The Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) serves much of southeast Harris County in Texas, including South Houston. The district constructed the Kirk Lewis Career and Technical High School to alleviate overcrowding at other district high schools and to provide focused opportunities for students to pursue local vocations.

Their challenge
Because of its unique purpose, the high school’s building design and construction involved unique challenges. The focus on vocational training created a need for collaborative meeting areas and lab facilities where students could receive instruction in a wide spectrum of disciplines.
Our solution
Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for the Kirk Lewis High School. In the process of creating these designs, our engineers leveraged their experience in collaborative layout design to support the inclusion of highly versatile learning spaces. Our team also used day lighting, recycling, low-VOC products, and renewable solar and wind energy to meet the school’s power requirements and achieve the district’s goals for energy efficiency and sustainability.
The results
The finished school features flexible, multi-use, and expandable learning spaces that offer an efficient footprint while encouraging collaboration and providing easy access to technology. Ample use of natural lighting promotes a healthy environment and reduces costs. Our team is proud to have partnered in this state-of-the-art facility where over 1,700 students can get hands-on training that prepares them for the future.
