Designing a New Tower, Staging Transition for Uninterrupted Care
To meet California’s 2020 mandate for seismic safety standards for hospitals, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center chose our team to bring the system into compliance, focusing on their emergency department and kitchen and dietary services.
Determining that constructing a tower to include the upgraded departments was more feasible than retrofitting an existing one, our team used temporary power systems while upgrading the new site to stage transitions and keeping both sites powered for uninterrupted patient care.
The tower features an expanded emergency department with 20 exam rooms, new maternity and neonatal intensive care units, a surgery department with seven operating rooms, cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology lab procedure rooms, a new dietary department, and other ancillary functions. It not only fulfills the state’s seismic requirements but also advances the center’s capabilities for years to come.
