Renovating Operating Rooms to Support Robotic Surgery

Our client needed to upgrade their operating rooms to comply with HCA national standards and guidelines and to integrate robotic technology into their surgery suite.

Our team upgraded the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection utility systems, including isolated ground electrical distribution, and expanded medical gas systems.

Our designs included a new roof-mounted air handling unit, a glycol sub-cooler, and a roof-mounted pumping package. The holistic system achieved the project goals of maintaining a low space temperature (62°F) and a relative humidity level below 55 percent. We paid special attention to the minimum flow requirements for the new equipment, providing four scroll compressors to facilitate very low phase I loads. Similarly, our designs leveraged variable speed drives in the pumping systems, and we strategically located valves and caps to expedite subsequent tie-ins to support future expansion.
