Salas O’Brien’s engineering, energy, and construction administration work for the Foorhill-De Anza Community College District has bolstered their investments in sustainability and empowered the faculty, staff, and administration to serve the community through accessible, high quality education.
Established during the prosperous post-war 1950s, the Foothill-De Anza Community College District serves over 60,000 students each year—making it one of the largest community college districts in the nation. But the district has more than excellent numbers to show for from its more than 50 years in operation. As a part of the League for Innovation in the Community College, it’s on the cutting edge of innovation in education. The institution’s core values of excellence, inclusion, and sustainability drive ongoing initiatives to increase impact on the community while decreasing wear on the environment.
Foothill-De Anza’s commitment to sustainability made photovoltaic installations an ideal energy choice for their campuses. When they needed an engineering partner to provide engineering design for implementation of these and other infrastructure, they turned to Salas O’Brien.
The first part of our work with the district involved electrical and energy engineering services for seven different photovoltaic systems. Salas O’Brien’s design identified and consolidated all points of connection for the photovoltaic systems and updated the associated medium-voltage single-line diagram, ensuring the facilities could achieve maximum levels of efficiency. In addition to the work on Foothill-De Anza’s photovoltaic systems, our team also provided construction administration and design for ground fault testing in two campus parking lots—a process that involved heavy coordination with the Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
