Woodsdale Generating Station
Our team’s wide expertise enabled us to convert this client’s functional diagrams into a format that would be compatible with their existing systems.
This electric power holding company’s Woodsdale Generating Station has six combustion turbines, each rated at 86MW. The plant is located in the Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Maryland Interconnection (PJM) market and provides black start restoration services within the market.
The Woodsdale Generating Station was originally designed to burn natural gas with propane as a backup. When the plant switched to using oil as the backup fuel source, several changes were made to accommodate the shift, including the addition of a 4 million gallon fuel storage area and fuel distribution system, as well as mechanical and governor control logic modifications to the turbines. The turbine control system required new logic, and the client’s vendor provided diagrams in a format that was no longer compatible with the turbine control distributed control system (DCS).
Salas O’Brien was engaged to convert the 177 sheets of functional diagrams into a format compatible with the plant’s existing Emerson Ovation DCS. Our experience with both formats made our input an essential element of this project’s success, and once we were engaged, the client requested that we also write site commissioning documents and observe commissioning activities to ensure the success of the project.
Our work on this project enabled the client to successfully transition their backup fuel source.
