Creating a Better Healthcare Environment
Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) plays a critical regional healthcare role with thousands of Mainers relying on it every day for primary, specialty, and acute care. On any given day, about half of the inpatients at EMMC come from outside the primary service area.
EMMC’s modernization project provided a $305 million expansion including an eight-story structure accommodating new operating rooms, women’s and infant’s care spaces, NICU, ICU, cardiovascular suite, and patient rooms. The project also included a new cafeteria and servery and an updated main kitchen.
The renovation included the expansion of the central utility plant to accommodate two new 300 horsepower boilers, 1,700 tons of new chillers, a new 1.5 MW emergency generator, and major upgrades to the campus medium voltage normal and essential electrical distribution system.
