Salas O’Brien provided full engineering services for this client’s relocation to a new 150,000-square-foot office.
As a leading global law firm with more than 40 countries, DLA Piper is positioned to help clients with their legal needs no matter where they’re located. This company strives to deliver practical and innovative legal solutions and services for their clients, who range from governments and public sector bodies to multinational, Global 1000, and Fortune 500 enterprises.
Our client called on Salas O’Brien to provide full mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design services for the company’s relocation from 203 N. LaSalle to floors nine through 17 in the West Loop office tower at 444 W. Lake Street. Our client has about 210 lawyers in Chicago, making this new office our client’s second largest U.S. office. As a result, they needed the design to include space for open office areas, small private offices, meeting and conference rooms, filing rooms, dining and lounge spaces, and more.
Rising to the challenge, Salas O’Brien provided resources and design services for the new office’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including an uninterrupted power supply system, a generator backup, and main distribution frame and intermediate distribution frame rooms with 24/7 supplemental cooling. In line with our client’s goals, our design accommodated a layout with space for flexible open office areas and private offices. In addition, our design featured collaboration and team rooms, a library, filing rooms, an employee cafe, and other associated support areas. A key feature of our design was a build-out with a flexible conference center floor for meeting and breakout areas, video conference rooms, and a catering pantry.
The finished 150,000-square-foot office building successfully met our client’s goals. Thanks to our team’s work and attention to detail, this finished office space consistently matches the quality of our client’s prestigious global brand.
