Arts & Letters Building
Salas O’Brien provided multi-faceted engineering services, structured cabling design, and other sustainable designs for a new LEED-certified education building for DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.
Located in the heart of Chicago, Illinois, DePaul University is a distinguished private university with over 300 undergraduate and graduate programs. With accolades in the Princeton Review, Forbes magazine, and U.S. News & World Report, DePaul particularly excels in business, communication, fine arts, and game design. The school also puts a special emphasis on teaching as a discipline, and with a 15:1 student teacher ratio, the school offers students an excellent standard of academic engagement and rigor.
DePaul University needed a new addition to their Lincoln Park Campus to house more academic space, labs, and faculty and administrative offices. Our client wanted this space to include informal student study and lounge spaces to foster more interconnectivity in their student life. They also wanted the design for the new building to include flexibility and space for future growth. In addition, our client wanted to pursue LEED certification.
Our team met the challenge and provided all of the resources for the design and coordination of conventional mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, as well as structured cabling for this four-story, 115,000-square-foot classroom building. In line with our client’s goals, our design features a flexible layout to easily accommodate the university’s growth and development. The facility includes 47 state-of-the-art classrooms, large faculty and administrative offices, and computer and study labs.
Our engineering design successfully met the client’s goals for this building’s layout and efficiency. This new Arts & Letters building is an updated and exciting addition for the students and faculty of DePaul University, and thanks to our team’s work, this project was awarded LEED Gold certification.
