Their challenge
When this notable ongoing Salas O’Brien client needed a new capacitor bank in one of their substations, they approached our team for help with the project. To facilitate the addition of a capacitor bank, a 138kV bus needed to be walked down from a steel box bay structure at a height of 100 feet so that it could connect to the desired location of the capacitor bank. Connecting the new capacitor bank to the high bay required a custom steel structure design.
Our solution
Rather than design a new bus from all new materials, Salas O’Brien reused an existing transmission pole as a walk down structure to the capacitor bank. The pole was sent to the manufacturer so that the custom bus support steel could be welded and the exterior galvanized.
The results
Our experienced designers’ innovative, custom solution met the client’s needs, complied with clearance codes, and fell within the desired timeline. Our decision to reuse existing materials also lowered project costs—delivering exceptional value while ensuring a safe, successful installation process.
