Salas O’Brien performed mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design engineering and construction administration for the restoration of the historic Battle House Renaissance Hotel & Spa in downtown Mobile, Alabama.
Our client
Located in the heart of downtown Mobile, Alabama, the Battle House Renaissance Hotel boasts 238 guest rooms, a luxury spa, elegant social spaces, and soaring rotundas that highlight the building’s 19th-century origin. This 280,000-square-foot building was restored and reopened in conjunction with construction of the RSA Battle House Tower—a new 42-story office building named for its adjacent historic hotel.

As a renovation, this project aimed to preserve and restore the historic charm of the hotel while adequately providing for modern guests’ access, power usage, and overall comfort.
Our solution
Salas O’Brien’s experienced team provided construction administration as well as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services that helped the client achieve their goals for the space. Our design included a new 2700-ton chiller plant and 4160V electrical distribution from multiple substations.
The results
Our work on this project empowered the client to achieve safe and efficient upgrades to the facility’s systems without detracting from the historic appeal of the space.
