Alpharetta City Center
Salas O’Brien contributed MEP and fire protection engineering, construction administration, and commissioning services to the transformation of this historic downtown city center in Georgia.
Located 30 miles north of central Atlanta, the City of Alpharetta is a vibrant, upscale area with rich historic charm. City leadership take an active interest in the city’s development and beautification, and in this project, they kickstarted a city initiative to re-envision Alpharetta’s downtown and transform it into a dynamic mixed-use environment.
The master-planned, 26-acre redevelopment of this city hub began when the city purchased the property surrounding its existing City Hall. The larger project encompassed a new City Hall, county library, 5-acre public park, town green, parking deck, and on-street parking—all with the vision to integrate the central downtown with further surrounding mixed-use development. The new, 47,000-square-foot City Hall would set the tone for the development, and city leadership needed a trustworthy, comprehensive engineering partner to make the project and its adjoining parking deck a success. The building needed to house administrative offices and a data center while achieving a historic feel throughout the facade, multi-floor open atrium, and city council room.
Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design services, commissioning, and construction administration for the new five-floor City Hall and attached 450-space parking deck. Our work balanced the project’s infrastructure and aesthetic needs while keeping the construction schedule on track.
The completed City Hall serves as a gathering place for citizens of the community, a landmark for visitors, and a beautiful focal point for the newly envisioned downtown Alpharetta area.
