Alief Career and Technology Center High School
Salas O’Brien performed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the cutting-edge Alief Career and Technology Center High School.
Located southwest of Houston, Alief Independent School District (ISD) is an ethnically diverse district that prioritizes targeted career preparation. With over 45,000 students enrolled from pre-kindergarten to grade 12, these schools play a vital role in supporting the thriving Houston area.
Alief ISD’s Career and Technology High School is a groundbreaking project that enables students to experience academic subjects and disciplines via inquiry into specific career pathways. The district partnered with Houston Community College on the project in an effort to help students in their careers as well as to address specific community workforce shortages. Students learn the basics of trades ranging from HVAC and electrical to plumbing and welding with the goal to begin working immediately after graduation. This center’s unique learning objectives meant that cookie-cutter design wasn’t a viable option for the space. The district needed a partner with a thorough understanding of the industry that could also adapt to meet the district’s vision for the school.
The Salas O’Brien team collaborated with Alief leadership and delivered mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering designs that met and exceeded the district’s goals for the space.
Bolstered by excellent planning, design, and execution, the finished center is an engaging space for students to pursue targeted career preparation.
