Their challenge

Alief ISD’s Career and Technology High School is a groundbreaking project that enables students to experience academic subjects and disciplines via inquiry into specific career pathways. The district partnered with Houston Community College on the project in an effort to help students in their careers as well as to address specific community workforce shortages. Students learn the basics of trades ranging from HVAC and electrical to plumbing and welding with the goal to begin working immediately after graduation. This center’s unique learning objectives meant that cookie-cutter design wasn’t a viable option for the space. The district needed a partner with a thorough understanding of the industry that could also adapt to meet the district’s vision for the school.

Our solution

The Salas O’Brien team collaborated with Alief leadership and delivered mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering designs that met and exceeded the district’s goals for the space.
