Aldine Independent School District
In this project, Salas O’Brien provided key technology upgrades for 58 Aldine ISD schools and seven district facilities. The project successfully updated structured cabling, school communications, classroom audio/video, CCTV, access control, network infrastructure, and the bus GPS locating system.
Our client
Aldine Independent School District is a public school district serving pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students in parts of north Houston, Texas, and surrounding areas. The district enrolls over 65,000 students annually and has the vision to “produce the nation’s best” by fostering critical thinking, problem solving, and responsibility in its students.
Project highlights
Their challenge
In order to meet the district’s developing needs, leadership decided to undertake a $96 million overhaul that would involve upgrades to structured cabling, school communications, classroom audio/video, CCTV, access control, network infrastructure, and the bus GPS locating system, as well as technology infrastructure for multiple new facilities in the district. In order to successfully complete these upgrades within schedule and budget constraints, the district needed a highly organized, responsible engineering partner. They chose Salas O’Brien.
Our solution
Our team’s design comprised an estimated 12 million feet of category 6 cabling, 3,000 wireless points, 5,000 PA speakers, 2,500 cameras, and 450 retrofitted doors for card access. The district’s new constructions included four new middle schools, a new CTE high school, three ground-up rebuilds of current elementary schools, and a new transportation facility. Our team handled the technology for each of these new constructions, and we were also involved in the planning of a new high school, a ninth grade center, and early college and elementary school prototypes.
The results
At this project’s completion, 58 schools and seven district facilities had been upgraded and improved by the technology infrastructure services provided by Salas O’Brien. Our team met Aldine’s scheduling and budget goals and left them with integrated, cutting-edge systems that will serve the district for years to come.
