Over the 2022 Labor Day weekend, members of Salas O’Brien’s Southern California team participated in the annual Canstruction® Orange County event, crafting a sculpture out of donated canned foods to benefit the Orange County Food Bank.

This is one of the many community events the Salas O’Brien team participates in annually, with philanthropy and community involvement playing a central role in the company’s culture.

Salas O’Brien team members participated as part of a multi-firm team with partners from Perkins Eastman, Petra Structural Engineers, and WE O’Neil Construction. The team’s structure, entitled “Peace CAN Be Achieved,” shares a powerful message of peace and solidarity with Ukraine. The design involved months of planning and required the team to source over 1,600 cans of canned goods to create the desired look!

The build took place at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA, over the course of 12 hours starting Friday evening and concluding Saturday morning. A total of 13 sculptures were created and all canned goods used in the designs were donated to the OC Food Bank to support county residents suffering from food insecurity.
