New Student Housing

Southeastern Louisiana University is the state’s third-largest public university, boasting nearly 15,000 students and more than 150 programs of study. With a small-town location, personal attention to students and a close-knit community of engaged learners. The university faced a burgeoning student population and needed more housing to allow more students to become immersed in the academic and extracurricular activities of the university.

Salas O’Brien provided the mechanical, electrical, and technology design for two new residence halls, including the first hybrid geothermal system for the university. The system uses the naturally cool temperatures below ground to reduce energy costs, increase cooling efficiency, and provide students with a more sustainable living environment. Each building houses community corner lounges for socializing, quiet study rooms, laundry rooms, and multi-purpose spaces with integrated technology to house classes and various social, entertainment, and educational events.
