Case Study

Klein Independent School District

High School 5

This 665,000-square-foot campus is located on 83 acres and offers programs such as cosmetology, culinary, child development, drafting, auto mechanics, welding, and iron working. The campus accommodates 3,600 students and includes fine arts facilities, competition and auxiliary gymnasiums, and a natatorium.

Salas O’Brien provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering for this project. The mechanical system is supplied by three water-cooled chillers and multiple 2,850 MBH heating hot water boilers. A new demand-control outside-air system increases efficiency in the HVAC system, and three electrical utility services provide the building 4000 Amps at 277/480 volts. In addition to these mechanical and electrical improvements, two natural gas-fired generators fuel life safety equipment within the building.
